Orvieto and its territory
Orvieto, from wherever you are admiring it, appears so
linked with the natural site on which it is built, a large
tuff rock, that it is difficult to distinguish where end
the nature and where starts the work of the man, the buildings,
the architectonic forms. Above all of this there is the
cathedral, extraordinary work
symbol of the city. Its construction, started at the end
of the 13th century, continued during the following centuries,
always enriching itself. The façade is an extraordinary
synthesis of architecture, paintings and sculptures, an
equilibrium of lines, relieves, chromatic effects. City
rich of history and cultural stratifications, it is full
of churches, noble palaces, towers, splendid pathways opened
on the surrounding landscapes. City of the wine per excellence,
it is surrounded by hills and high plateaux with extended
wine grapes.
In
the heart of the tuff, smooth material easy to work, there
are hundreds of ways, the caves, the protected places where
during the centuries, form the Etruscan and roman times,
the wine has been preserved, looked after, made rest. We
recommend a stay under the sign of the art but also of the
taste at the AGRITURISMO
BARBERANI.; here it is possible to visit the caves and
to taste excellent wines Doc and Igt in a quiet and relaxing
environment.
The surroundings, in whatever direction you go, are full
of interesting places to visit, of beautiful villages and
histories: Castel Viscardo, Castel Giorgio, Parrano, Allerona
and all the area of the lake of Corbara.
