Orvieto and its territory

After the Martani Mounts and the other DOC of the Amerini hills where, among the white wines, the most important is the Malvasia, are starting the tuffs of the region of Orvieto, the areas of volcanic origin where is produced one of the most famous Italian white wine in the world, the “Orvieto”.
In the past, this glorious wine with which have fall in love poets, artists and travellers, was preserved in caves extremely suggestive dig in the tuff. Nowadays the DOC has been renovated and has seen a strong development also thanks to the work of a lot of producers. The vineyards have, as the prevalent grape, the Tuscany Trebbiano, locally known as the “Procanico”, with a good percentage of Verdello and in a reduced way of Grechetto, white Canaiolo, here called Drupeggio and Malvasia Toscana. Here are produced also a lot of so called meditation wines coming from grapes presenting the so called ‘noble mould’. The Corbara DOC, recently constituted, area located in the most antique DOC area of the Orvieto region, facing the lake of the same name, is coming out with a production of excellent red wines. In the AGRITURISMO BARBERANI, located in the heart of the wine firm, with a splendid panorama over the lake of Corbara, it is possible to visit the caves and to taste excellent Doc and Igt wines. Also here, with the flavours and the aromas so diverse considering the closeness of this territory of transition to the low Tuscany and to the Tuscia of Viterbo, area with strong traditions, one can taste dense flavours and unforgettable pecorino cheeses.
