The high Valley of the Tevere
From Perugia, going up towards the valley of the Tevere,
one reaches Umbertide and Città di Castello. The
plain is covered by a precious tobacco, sunflowers and corn.
On the hills, antique chestnut woods are producing tasty
chestnuts with which are made local versions of the chestnut
cake.
All
the Umbrian are passionate searchers of mushrooms and when
arrives the season of the boletus, agarics and the so many
local varieties are abundant on the markets and on the menus
in so many diverse preparations: in the sauces, roasted,
fried or frying-pan dishes. At the TORRI
DI BAGNARA, antique medieval tower, you will find persons
happy to guide you in the wood at the discovery and picking
of mushrooms. The entire area is in fact very rich of all
the products of the woods and between Città di Castello
and Gubbio we find excellent white truffles being them also
widely used in the local cooking. Do you want to try unique
emotions? At the AGRITURISMO
SANT’ILLUMINATO, splendid 18th century house,
you can be accompanied in an experience of unique and unrepeatable
sensations as is the hunting of the truffle with specialised
dogs: you will feel emotions of past times, together with
Marco, great knower, who will accompany you! If on the contrary
you want to stop to eat in the immediate surroundings of
Perugia, you can go to the COVONE,
antique private house with an untouched fascination and
with a tasty and typical cooking.
