From Perugia to Marsciano and Todi
Going down the Tevere valley, between Deruta and Casalina,
one meets the sanctuary of the “Madonna dei Bagni”,
very important place of the popular religion. The miraculous
image of a Madonna with Child is associated, as it often
happens, to the sacrality of the water, to the presence
of a source that was adored already during the pre-christian
era. For a stay under the sign of the green and close to
the shore of the Tevere river, you can stay at the AGRITURISMO
MIRALDUOLO , in a beautiful 18th century house.
In Todi, strategic city located, as it was during the high
middle ages, on the via Amerina, main highway of the ‘bizantine
corridor’ that was in effect signing the caesura between
the bizantines and the lungobards, between two military,
political, religious corridors, was born during the ’30
of the 13th century Iacopone, friar, Umbrian mystic and
poet of great importance. Worthy son of his land, it took
side in favor of poverty and simplicity, in accordance with
the original spirit of the Rule of St. Francesco. Iacopone
from Todi was defending with strength an ascetic practice
which, according to him, was the only one that can liberate
us from the world and make us reach a bigger illumination.
Close to Todi, in Collevalenza, towards Massa Martana, the
story of Mother Speranza has kept alive the Umbrian mysticism
with a strong ethical pressure, attracting in the sanctuary
she founded thousands of persons coming from all over the
world.
In the surroundings, the AGRITURISMO
IL PORTONE is a charming, quiet and reassuring place,
from which you can admire the splendid panorama of Todi,
Orvieto and Montecastello Vibio, where is located the smallest
18th century theatre of the world.
